I did a web search for ‘new years resolutions’ to see what would come up. To name a few, many of these had to do with managing finances, getting a better job, eating right, getting fit, learning something new, and even helping others. I was sadden to not see any that had to do sharing the gospel or becoming more like Jesus. Granted the sites reflect our culture, but even when asking Christ followers at random I found the same candid responses and even resolutions to make no resolution for fear of failure. I too, fall to these 'aspire-radical' responses.
I too sat down, as is my custom to do around the new year, to reflect on the nostalgia, accomplishments, and even failure to see what fun stuff I could recall. Then I found my list from last year and was happy to see that I , by the grace of Christ, had done some amazing stuff… and still have some things to go.
I decided this year it would be wise to align my resolutions with the heart of Christ. I think that in doing this that any other resolution, like needing to find a job, will come as He pleases. I must not retreat back in fear, as mirrored in the history of Israel and others (ha ha.. I can say this truly because I have read the O.T.), but instead move from my Kadesh Barnea and risk all in obedience for the glory and salvation of Christ.
